About Glass Art by Catherine Lowebased in Glasgow
The inspiration for my current art glass collection devolves from the time I lived in the Outer Hebrides when life was ruled by the dual forces of weather and sea. I have sought to encapsulate the many moods of the sea and beach in fused glass. Each piece of jewellery is handmade and kiln fired twice to obtain the delicate reactions that help depict the sea and the water’s edge.
I am a glass artist presently working from an artists’ collective in the WASP studios at 77 Hanson Street, Glasgow. In 2012 I returned to college to study glass art. During that time, I won 2 prizes: one from the Incorporation of Wrights in 2013 for my stained glass panel of the People’s Palace in Glasgow and the second from the Scottish Glass Society in 2014, for the best final year student’s work.
I am a committee member of the Scottish Glass Society and have exhibited in their annual exhibitions in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
